Canon Theatre
An historic Canadian theatre, the 87 year-old Canon is still going strong, hosting great musical and theatrical performances for Toronto theatre patrons. The Canon theatre opened in 1920 as a combined Vaudeville and motion picture house, and could seat more than 3,000 people. Built by the founder of Famous Players, it was originally named the Pantages Theatre, and was the key theatre in Alexander Pantages chain.

After major renovations in 1989, the new, beautifully refurbished Pantages Theatre opened its 2220 seats for Andrew Lloyd Webber’s musical, The Phantom of the Opera. It was renamed the Canon Theatre for Canon Canada’s support. The Canon Theatre is run by Mirvish Productions who also own the Princess of Wales Theatre and Royal Alexander Theatre (Royal Alex). The Canon Theatre is located near the intersection of Victoria and Yonge St. in Downtown Toronto. It is easily accessed by the Yonge Street Subway and is in the heart of the Entertainment district, close to the Eaton Centre, the PATH underground mall system and the Air Canada Centre.
