Kensington Toronto Neighbourhood

Kensington was a popular Toronto locale in the mid-1900s and was even featured on a television show called King of Kensington starring veteran actor Al Waxman. It is located northwest of the downtown near College Street and Spadina Avenue, and also near the University of Toronto.

Today it is filled with shops featuring goods from around the world, reflecting Toronto’s unique ethnic diversity. Kensington was a major market in its glory days. Many residents actually sold goods from carts placed in front of their homes. The Kensington area contains a maze of narrow streets and alleys lined with Victorian houses.

Some of Toronto’s best fruit, vegetables and dry goods stores can be found in Kensington, along with excellent seafood and meat shops. If you’d like to experience more of Toronto’s background and history, this is a great Toronto neighbourhood to visit.
