Among the fascinating historic buildings in downtown Toronto is the King’s College. The precursor to the University of Toronto, King’s College was granted a royal charter by King George IV of England in 1827. Designed after the Romanesque revival style, the building’s unique architecture is visible all around the property, which includes a picturesque park area on University avenue.
Currently King’s College houses the University of Toronto's Victoria University Arts and Science Program.
Built from red sandstone and grey limestone believed to reflect the back-to-nature ideals of romantic naturalism, the College blends Grecian features, made popular by college buildings in New England and New York State, with design principles reminiscent of ancient Middle Eastern Islamic mosques. Nearby, be sure to visit another impressive building: the Toronto Castle, Casa Loma.
Casa Loma tickets are available at the Casa Loma site and included in the Toronto City Pass ticket booklet. Other exhibits included in CityPass are the CN tower, the Toronto Zoo, the Ontario Science Center, the Royal Ontario Museum, and the Art Gallery of Ontario. CityPass makes an exciting weekend for you and your family easy and economical.
