Royal Ontario Museum

Lee Chin Crystal ROMThe Royal Ontario Museum (also known as “The ROM”) is Canada’s premier museum. Opened in 1914, it has been a treasury of Canadian history and culture for almost 100 years, and continues to educate and entertain visitors to this day. Hundreds of thousands of museum enthusiasts visit every year to experience exhibits such as this summer’s Ancient Peru Unearthed. Currently The ROM is undergoing extensive development as part of Renaissance ROM.  This project aims to renovate and restore the heritage buildings and galleries, while creating an innovative new space sure to spark further interest in one of Toronto’s most  iconic cultural sites.

Dinos Are Back Exhibit - New!

The ROM has a new dinosaur exhibit within the Le Chin Crystal. The Temerty Dinosaur Galleries have over 350 fossils on display with more than 20 complete dinosaur skeletons from the Jurassic and Cretaceous periods. Exhibits at The ROM

The ROM is divided into two major exhibit areas: The World Culture Galleries and The Natural History Galleries. Galleries devoted to China, Greece and Egypt are perennial favourites for visitors, while the Gallery of Birds & Reptiles and the Fossil Galleries are must-sees.

This summer’s major touring exhibit is Ancient Peru Unearthed: Golden Treasures of a Lost Civilization. Ancient Peru Unearthed is a fascinating look at artefacts recovered from an undisturbed, gold-filled tomb from the mysterious pre-Inca Sicán civilization in northern Peru. Upcoming exhibits include Drama and Desire: Japanese Paintings from the Floating World 1690 – 1850, a showcase of the ukiyo-e paintingsknown as “pictures of the floating world” which depict daily life in 17th, 18th, and 19th century Japan.

The Lee Chin Crystal

The newest addition to the ROM is the exciting architectural marvel sponsored by the philanthropist Micheal Lee Chin. 25 thousand people attended the opening gala. Attendees were treated to a free outdoor concert called A World of Possibilities, which featured Canadian and international performers such as David Foster, Jann Arden and Deborah Cox.

A trip to the new ROM this year will be an exciting one for residents of Toronto and southern Ontario, and for thousands of eager visitors from around the world.
