Rogers Centre - Skydome

Rogers Centre SkyDomeToronto’s Skydome was an engineering marvel when it was built in the 1980s and remains the most spectacular baseball stadium in the world. Built for $570 million, the stadium opened on June 3, 1989. Rogers Communications, a Canadian media company, purchased SkyDome in 2004, and revitalized it as the Rogers Centre. The stadium now plays host to professional teams, including home favourites: The Toronto Blue Jays and Toronto Argonauts.

Tours of the Rogers Centre are available for approximately $14. You can see the inner workings of the stadium, and learn more about its construction and amenities.

The exterior of the Rogers Centre includes a landscaped park and walkway, and $5 million of artwork which adorns the building, including:

  • Rogers Centre TorontoThe Audience—Michael Snow’s series of larger than life depictions of celebrating fans. Painted gold, the sculptures loom over the sidewalks at the northeast and northwest entrances.
  • A Tribute to Baseball by Lutz Haufschild. Located above the southeast and southwest entrances of Gate 5.
  • The Art of the Possible by Mimi Gellman. Located along the north side of the concourse on Level 100, this sculpture incorporates the signatures of 2000 builders of SkyDome as a tribute to their work. Artefacts found during the excavation of the site, such as musket balls and pottery have also been included.
  • Salmon Run by Susan Schelle. A large fountain made of stainless steel salmon cut-outs. Located at the southeast entrance.
  • Spiral Fountain by Judith Schwarz.
