One of the most beloved musicals of all time, The Sound of Music is a mostly true story of the Von Trapp Family Singers. Set in Salzburg, Austria, Maria is studying to become a nun and is sent from her abbey to be the governess to seven rowdy children of a widower naval commander, Captain George Ritter von Trapp. The plot takes many twists and turns, but eventually through her love and the power of music Maria bonds with the children, while also falling in love with their father. When the Third Reich takes power in Austria as part of the Anschluss and attempts to force Captain von Trapp back into military service, the family is forced to escape.
