Toronto IMAX Theatres

imax torontoThere are several IMAX Theatres in the Greater Toronto Area, including theatres at Ontario Place, the Ontario Science Centre, and in downtown Toronto, Brampton, Mississauga and Vaughn.

The IMAX film format was developed by a Canadian company and is now shown in almost 300 specially-designed theatres in over 40 countries. IMAX takes movie entertainment to a more intense, immersive level. Most IMAX theatres are large flat screens of huge dimension, but some are actually curved screens used in domed pavilions. One such pavilion exists at Ontario Place, where the first IMAX theatre was built. IMAX movies are available in 3-D (IMAX 3-D), and viewers can use special glasses supplied by the theatres.

IMAX is well-known for colourful, dynamic documentary-style films. Exotic locations such as undersea and outer space are favourites for IMAX. More recently feature length films are also being shown in IMAX theatres. The extra space, bigger seats, better sound, and picture quality all make IMAX a very comfortable experience for movie goers.
