Toronto Theatre
Toronto Theatre has prestigious history, dating back to the Vaudeville days when famous actors and comedians frequently played to packed Toronto audiences. Mae West, the Marx Brothers and Richard Burton are just a few of the big stars that performed in grand old Toronto theatres: Massey Hall, The Royal Alexandra, Elgin Theatre, Hummingbird Theatre, now called Sony Centre for the Performing Arts, and the Canon Theatre (Formerly Pantages Theatre). Today a variety of beautifully restored and new buildings host some of North America’s top stage productions, featuring many of today’s top theatre performers.
The 2007 Toronto theatre season had blockbusters like We Will Rock You, Peter Pan and Dirty Dancing.
