Do I need a passwport to enter Canada?

  • When traveling by land or sea: NO, not until at least the summer of 2009.
  • When traveling by air: YES.

Travel by Land or Sea

U.S. and Canadian citizens crossing the border by land or sea do not need a passport until at least the summer of 2009.

If you have a passport-great! That's all you'll need.

Otherwise, the rules did change recently and at the border you'll need a photo ID such as a driver's license, and ALSO proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate.

Niagara Falls
