Polar BearThe Toronto Zoo is one of the largest zoos in North America. Covering more than 287 hectares (700 acres) of land, home to over 5,000 animals and more than 450 distinct species,  the Toronto Zoo was one of the first zoos to group collections of animals, flora, plants, insects and marine life according to their origin rather than by species.

The collections are divided into four major zoo-geographic regions, each featuring numerous indoor pavilions and outdoor exhibits. Themed areas include: African Rainforest, African Savanna, Americas, Americas Outdoor Exhibit, giraffesAustralasia, Australasia Outdoor Exhibit, Eurasia, Eurasia Outdoor Excursion, Indomalaya, Indomalaya Outdoor Exhibit, Kids Zoo, and Malayan Woods. You can see everything from Polar Bears and White Tigers to White Alligators at the Toronto Zoo. There’s more than you can see in one day so be sure to select the exhibits you’re most interested in and there's a great section called the Toronto Kids Zoo.

Currently, the Australasia exhibit is undergoing extensive renovation, preparation for the opening of an even more astounding collection.


You can purchase Toronto Zoo tickets upon your arrival there, or as part of the Toronto Citypass booklet available at any of the top Toronto tourism attractions. The Toronto Zoo is located at Old Finch Ave just west of Markham road in Scarborough, and is accessible via highway 401.

The Toronto Zoo provides services for propagating animals. Cheetahs, Orangutans, Sumatran Tigers, Komodo Dragons, Gorillas, Kangaroos, and Two-toed Sloths have all been bred successfully at the Zoo. The Toronto Zoo is a member of the Canadian Association of Zoos and Aquariums, established to promote the welfare of animals and encourage the advancement of education, conservation and science.
